"I believe anybody who tells you he is unbiased is a liar. Being human gives you bias, and you can't avoid that. The best you can ever hope to be is fair."

Friday's Top 10

By Carol Einarsson | 09/02/2011
10 races have been run at AMS by Clint Bowyer and also by Steve Park. Comparing the two drivers, Park has a top-five finish, while Bowyer has never finished higher than sixth (though he's done so on four different occasions, and three of them were consecutive in '07 and '08!)
9 wins were achieved by Dale Earnhardt in 46 tries. He also had 26 top-five finishes. Even still, he's 12th from the top on the best average finish list.
8 laps have been led here by Brian Vickers in his 14 races.

10 might be the magic number for Juan Pablo Montoya or David Ragan. This will be the tenth attempt at Bristol for each of them, though neither has won.

9 laps were led by JJ Yeley in six races at Bristol. Random, yes, but heís earned over half a million dollars at the little track.

8.7 is Kyle Buschís average finishing spot at Bristol. Oddly, his average start is 20th.

7 years since Dale Jr. exclaimed the words in Victory Lane that have since become an unofficial track slogan: ďItís Bristol, Baby!Ē

10th is Cale Yarborough's average starting spot, and 10.7 is Jeff Gordon's. Cale ran 36 races, and Jeff Gordon has run 37. Cale ran about 6,500 laps to Gordon's 7,000-ish. Yarborough has 26 top-10s, Gordon has 23. About even across the board until you come to wins. Cale won eight races to Gordon's two, and even still, earned only 10% of what Gordon's earned. Then again, the average price of housing today is 1050% of what it was in 1970.

9 wins by David Pearson is the track record. Those wins came in just 29 races, and in that time he also had 20 top-10s, and ten poles.

8th in points, Ryan Newman, has raced at MIS 20 times. In those 20 races, he has one pole, two wins, and five top-tens. His average finish, however, is nearly seven spots worse than his average finish.

10 races have been attempted by Boris Said, originally racing at the Cup level as a "road course ringer". In his ten attempts, he has two top-ten finishes. He made it to third in 2005 and eighth in 2001. Three times he failed to finish at this road course, and his average finish is 24.6. Forty-one drivers have a better average finish than Boris.

9 drivers have earned more than a million dollars in the village of Watkins Glen. All of them will be racing on Sunday.

8 times out of 23 races, the driver who started on the pole is the same guy that took home the checkers. In fact, three of the first four races were won from the pole.

10th in points, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. dropped a spot after Indy. In his past seven starts at Pocono (the Hendrick years), heís scored just two top-tens. Four of those seven starts found him finishing in 19th or worse.

9.2 is the best average finish among active drivers at Pocono, and that stat belongs to Denny Hamlin. Heís better than Jimmie by just 1/10 of a position.

8 drivers attempting to make the race on Sunday have won more than one pole at Pocono. Five of them are currently associated with Hendrick Motorsports.

10 races have been started at Indianapolis Motor Speedway by each Kevin Harvick, Ryan Newman, and Kurt Busch. Comparing those three drivers, Kevin Harvick has done the most with his ten starts, earning one pole, one victory, and seven top-tens. The best the other two could muster was a four top-tens for Busch, and one for Newman. Neither of them had a pole or a victory.
9 out of 17 races here have been won starting inside the top 5.
8.2 is the highest average finish at Indy, and it's claimed by Indiana native Tony Stewart who also borrowed a fence-climbing tradition from IndyCar racer Helio Castroneves.

10 lead-lap finishes in 10 race starts for Denny Hamlin. Heís the only driver (with more than one start) to never finish a lap down.

9 is the number on Marcos Ambroseís car, and itís also his birth month. Itís also the number of top-five finishes heís had in the past three years (counting the three heís had so far this year.)

8th letter of the alphabet: H.  Nine drivers whose last name begins with H have raced at New Hampshire. Only Denny Hamlin and Kevin Harvick have won, and Bobby Hamilton was the only other H driver with a top-10.

10 years ago Kevin Harvick was Rookie of the Year. Currently heís leading the points.

9 more races until the Chase, but more importantly, six more races till the Bristol night race!!

7 elevators are at Kentucky Speedway. Maybe. Their website lists seven, but labels them 1, 2, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11. So either there are four other unlisted elevators, or the elevator numbering guy has been drinkin'.

10 thousand pounds of explosive powder will be used for the post-race fireworks show Saturday night, setting off 11,000 individual explosions!

9th place is a pretty successful starting spot, having produced ten wins over the years, but third place produced 11 wins, and forty-four times in 128 races, the winner has started the race on the front row.

8th fastest in practice was Jeff Burton who'll make his 600th Cup start this weekend. Or if he was in the same statistical world as Kyle Busch, it would be his 910th.

10 races at Infineon Raceway have been won in a Chevy, and the remaining 12 victories are spread among four other manufacturers.

9 races at the former Sears Point were run on a race track more than two and a half miles long. Of those nine, Rusty Wallace and Ernie Irvan were most successful, with two wins each.

8 out of 22 races at Sonoma have been won by starting in the front row.
