"I believe anybody who tells you he is unbiased is a liar. Being human gives you bias, and you can't avoid that. The best you can ever hope to be is fair."

Friday's Top 10

By Carol Einarsson and Dave Clark | 03/18/2016

10 active drivers have won a race at Fontana.

9 times out of 26 the eventual winner has started in the top five, but seven times the winner started 22nd or worse!

8 of the drivers in Sunday's field are California natives.

7 years (2004-2010) there were two races at Fontana. Now, even with just one race, they've cut their seating capacity nearly 30% and there are still seats available for Sunday's race.

10 races is the longest winning streak for a manufacturer at PIR, and it was by Chevy.

9 caution flags waved at the 1990 race won by Dale Earnhardt, but in the whole race, there was just one lead change. Earnhardt started third that day.

8 lead changes in each of the last three races at PIR. Exactly 8.

7 of the last ten races at PIR have been won by Chevy.

10 more top-five finishes (18 in total so far) for Carl this year, compared to just eight top-fives for Smoke. Point: Cousin Carl

9 is Cousin Carl's average finish in the first 35 races this year; Tony's average finish is 12th. Point: Cousin Carl

8 Years in the Cup series for Carl; 13 for Tony. Point: Smoke

10 wins is the most ever achieved at Talladega, and it was done by Dale Earnhardt (of course).

9 thousand laps (or more) is something that has been achieved by only three men at Talladega. Dave Marcis, Bill Elliott, and Ricky Rudd have each raced more than 9,000 laps in their combined total of 176 races.

8 of the last 11 races at Talladega have been won by a Chevrolet. Actually, they've won 21 of the last 25, but I couldn't very well fit either of those numbers into my top 10, so there you have it.

10th in points is where Jeff Gordon landed after his engine blow up in Kansas. He's now 47 points out of first.

9 drivers changed positions in the points standings after last week's race.

8 drivers are within 20 points of first place in the Cup series.

10 ARCA races have been run at Kansas, but none have ever before been run under the lights as they will this weekend! Frank Kimmel is the only driver to win more than one ARCA race here. Last year's ARCA race was won by Richard "Hold My Watch" Childress' grandson, Ty Dillon.

9th spot on the starting grid has never produced a winner at Kansas in the Cup, Nationwide, Truck, ARCA, or even IndyCar series. No series at this race track, in its entire history has ever produced a winner that started 9th.

8 different drivers have won at Kansas, and all will be in the field for Sunday's race. Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, and Greg Biffle are the only two-time winners.

10 races have been run by two active drivers named David. Gilliland and Ragan have each started ten times at Dover, and neither has a win, a pole, or a top-ten finish. Gilliand has led three laps, though, and Ragan has not led any. I guess Dover's not lucky if your first name is David, unless your last name also happens to be Pearson. THAT David won five races, had 12 top-fives, and six poles! All of that in a mere 16 starts.

9 different drivers starting Sunday's race have scored at least one pole position (maybe there'll be 10 by the time the race starts), and David Reutimann is one of them.

8th spot starting has produced just four winners in more than 80 Cup races at Dover, and the wins have alternated between Ford and Chevy, back and forth. Bobby Allison in '80 in a Ford, then Dale Earnhardt in '93 in a Chevy, followed by Mark Marin in '99 with Ford, and then just two years ago in '09, Jimmie Johnson won from 8th in his Chevy. Given the minimum of six years span between 8th place starts producing a win, it looks like even if the driver starting in 8th on Sunday is in a Ford, he probably won't win.

10 different drivers have won the last 11 races at New Hampshire. Clint Bowyer is the spoiler that won two of them.

9 of the last 13 races here have been won by Chevy. It was nice of them for three races in 2008-9 to let Dodge, Ford, and Toyota each win a race in succession before returning to their dominating ways.

8.5 is the best average start at New Hampshire, and it's held by Ryan Newman over the course of 19 starts. It probably doesn't hurt that he also holds the record for most poles, at five.

10 Races are all that have been run at Chicagoland Speedway at the Cup level, and until this year, all the races were run in July.

9 fire stations are in the city of Joliet, and they respond to more than 19,000 calls per year.

8 drivers in the field for Sunday's race have a previous win at Chicagoland. Six of them are in the Chase. Neither guy inside Jimmie Johnson's head (Jimmie or his BFF Kurt Busch) have won here.

10 racers have an average finish of 10th at Richmond, most of them started fewer than 10 races, however. Two that didn't - Benny Parsons and Cale Yarborough who raced 29 and 22 times respectively. Benny got two wins, and Cale got three.

9 was a good number for Rusty Wallace and he has the most consistent numbers at the highest level of anyone. His average start was 9.0 and his average finish was 9.3. That means in 44 races, he only let an average of 1/3 of a race car pass him each race.

8th on the all-time win list for Richmond is a tie between me, Jimmy Spencer, Fred Lorenzen, Juan Pablo Montoya, and about a thousand other drivers who have never won a race at Richmond. 7th on the all-time win list, however, is a 22-way tie with one win. Nine of those 22 will be in this weekend's race.
