What I Like About You

Category: What I Like About You

I like that two and a half years ago when he was named as the second driver at MWR, a lot of people wondered about the choice and might not have even known who he was, but now everyone knows the name (and how to spell it!)

I like that David likes Dairy Queen. You have to appreciate a guy who knows good soft-serve ice cream.

I like that he drives the 00 because that was his dad's number, and I like that when it was his dad's number, it was actually B-00 for "Buzzie's 00", and everyone called it the "boo car".

I like that he has dogs. Miniature Dachshunds, but still, they're dogs.

I like that he is a third-generation racer because the best racing stories are those that run down family lines.

I like that he has a new nickname at MWR: "The Franchise." They've even put it on the side of his car.

I like that he has the respect of his peers, and that even Tony Stewart has noticed and says "Every week he just keeps getting better and better."

I like that he's led laps at nine different tracks.

I like that David hosts an annual golf tournament that benefits charities like All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL where he made possible the first Dream Racer (a small-scale car designed for kids to kick back in while offering a diversion as they get treatments like chemotherapy).

And on a tangent, I applaud Mark Smith, Sage Hendricks, and Bill Snyder for their building of these cars for children! Click HERE for more info about the program.

I like that before he was a full-time racer, Reutimann actually worked for UPS.

I like that David has scored a pole in all three of the top NASCAR series, something that less than two dozen guys have accomplished.

I like that he has an "Advanced Driving Tactics" DVD for student drivers, to teach them increased safety techniques for situations like extreme weather or unexpected terrains.

I like that Reut also has an annual charity cookout each November to benefit charities in and around his home town of Zephyrhills, FL.

And one more thing I like about David Reutimann,

I like that when David was a younger driver, his dad did whatever he could to help his son and now the roles have reversed and David is funding his 68-year-old father's "retirement" as Buzzie keeps racing dirt late-models around the southeast. And winning!

I like that you, Carol, even being sick and terribly under the weather, have shot out such awesome and diverse columns in the past week! I've said it before and I say it again: YOU ROCK!

I at first did not like Reut much when he was brought into Mikey's team. He messed up a lot IMHO and made some boo-boos. Yet this racin thang is a daily learning experience and DR is growing on me. I remember a recent Trackside appearance and he just cracked me up! He was just so genuine and funnee and I was able to have more insight on him, his love and devotion to Buzzy.

I like that you appreciate when a driver contributes to the community, giving back, and I like that you write about it, share.

While I have not followed David's career,

I do think he is a very nice guy. In the interviews I have seen, he is laid back, genuine, and has a comical side.

I wish him much success!!

Thanks, Carol, for the column.

I went to the cookout last November and loved it. At the cookout, they hold an auction of sports memorabilia to raise even more money. They also hold a silent auction and a raffle. If you bring a toy for Toys for Tots, that gets you in the door or it is $20. He really put on a nice time. He even had Lucky Dog come and hang out with all.

David is the real deal for sure. He is steady and humble and Godly.

Thanks again, Carol. I hope that you get well soon.

CHEERS to a great write-up, Carol! I have always liked David and am impressed as much by his personal life as by his driving.

So glad they dropped "the beak" in favor of The Franchise! One definitely has more class!

Now for my worry - how long will David stay with Mikey? Hope he has a very long contract as Mikey really needs him in his stable. I don't think it will be too long before David wins a Cup race - he's got the drive and the stamina.

And a special thanks, Carol, for all your articles - even when you're not feeling great yet. We appreciate every keystroke!

I think Reut is a very classy guy, always respectful and now respected by his fellow racers except maybe Stremme but consider the source. He is very open with his faith and knows he has been blessed. My sister went to Bristol and brought back a Toyota hat for me, I was thrilled because David had signed it. It's my first official driver signature and I couldn't be prouder that it is David. I think the franchise thing is hysterical, he said it as a joke (the man is almost too humble) and the guys ran with it they obviously respect him too.

And two days after I wrote this, he's on the pole?? Coincidence?? Woo hoo Reut!!

Speaking of David Reutimann! Congrats to him scooping up the pole at Texas!!!!

David is AWESOME. Pole run today and hopefully a win very soon (Sunday would be nice). He is such a nice guy and i think he loves giving back with the charity and helping his dad race as well. I love that he is contributing to the charity that gives kids a place to sit while getting treatments and it takes their minds off the treatment (Dream racers). Thanks, Carol, for the article.

So who will you write about next week, Carol? Can we make suggestions based on who we want on the pole? I'm just sayin.....

WTG, Carol!
