"I believe anybody who tells you he is unbiased is a liar. Being human gives you bias, and you can't avoid that. The best you can ever hope to be is fair."

Amid the Tax Evasion and Hate, Hey - Merry Christmas!

Wow. Larry McClure's been indicted in what seems to be something pretty big. 115 years in jail is the number of the day. Innocent until proven guilty, certainly, but the accusations sound pretty bad at this point. First Gene Haas and now Larry McClure? Toss in Helio, and I'd imagine racing outsiders are wondering what's up with racing and tax problems. Y'know, though, I'd rather have team owners in trouble than drivers, and I'll take tax evasion over drug addictions any day of the week. I bet NASCAR's public relations department would, too.

Remember when Dale Earnhardt and Junior ran the 24 at Daytona and SPEED covered something like 20 of the 24 hours and we all stayed up and watched, but we didn't watch any of the other races in the series? Well, race fans, we might have a whole new reason to watch. Not just the fun of a Scott "Hi to the family!" Pruett interview, but now it seems a certain long-haired motorcycle-riding singer/racer has his sights set on the series. Says Kyle Petty, "We're trying to put something together to run not only the 24 hours, but all year long. I've always said this is where I want to be. When I came here the first time, I said to run the Grand-Am division would be the next step up...This is a step to the top level of road racing." And with SPEED coverage of these races, I think we've got real potential for some good racing TV.

What's with the Hamilton hate? Good grief, there's a website set up that exists for the sole reason of gathering haters together to wish ill to Lewis Hamilton so that he doesn't finish the race in Brazil. Earlier this year, he was targeted by the Spaniards. At first glance, it might appear that was only about rooting for their native son ("the great Fernando Alonso"), but now it appears there's some kinda racial tension between the Spanish and anyone of African descent? What is that about? Even the third most used image in photobucket resulted in that which is posted above! I mean, I get racial tensions in a country where history holds stories of such horrors as slavery. And I get international tension where two countries have long rivaled each other for ownership of land and the wealth that goes with it. But Spanish hating Blacks for what reason? Maybe I was asleep that day in world history, but this just seems crazy.

AFA this week took note that Home Depot seemed to be walking around the Christmas issue and avoiding the use of that word. You know, calling those fake pines that people buy to celebrate the national holiday that falls on December 25th, "holiday" trees? Enough folks emailed Home Depot that they relented and released the following statement (in part), "...please note that we are adjusting our Web site to make 'Christmas' more prominent and to make our site more aligned with our advertising and point-of-sale signage." One might wonder how many AFA members are also race fans that might have emailed Home Depot and thrown around names like Lowe's and Menard's.
