"I believe anybody who tells you he is unbiased is a liar. Being human gives you bias, and you can't avoid that. The best you can ever hope to be is fair."

Last night we left and went out for shakes at Spangles, a great burger place in Topeka. It's 50s all the way, with a giant Elvis statue, and in May they also had a Marilyn Monroe statue, but now Marilyn is gone. She'd been atop a table, and we wondered if she'd somehow been toppled.

We all just stood up for the invocation and the national anthem. A media center of  39 reporters stood in a room where not a single person outside would have noticed if we hadn't. Yet men removed their caps, and all stood in silence for both the prayer and anthem. It was a beautiful thing.

We came to the track early today so we could attend Chapel, and even though it was scheduled to be out in the tent following the driver's meeting, it was moved to the media room. Quieter, less windy, and it afforded us more time. Nick Terry with MRO led the service and spoke about seeing the greatness in yourself that God sees in you. Whether you win or lose, whether you're up or down, God is still in control. It looked as if there was planned to be a musician present, but there was not. A smattering of drivers in attendance, one with his mom and dad. It was nice because it was just a gathering of believers praying together.

After Chapel, we returned to the media center and that's when I found what my phone had been buzzing about... 30 minutes prior, we'd been watching practice and they had the NBC feed in the media center. It was Dave Burns and Steve Letarte, and someone (okay, ME) may have tweeted something to the effect of "Does Steve Letarte EVER stop talking???" I intentionally didn't tag him in the tweet and didn't expect he'd see it. But alas... he did. The next question we had was how on earth did he have time between talking to reply to my tweet?? Anyway, he saw it, and he replied. And the Orange Cone retweeted. And Sam Bass retweeted. And on and on... It was amusing, and maybe there might be some point where he will reflect on the question and rein it in a bit. If so, you're welcome. If not, well, I tried.

The Xfinity race is running right now. Dave is out wandering the pits and using his blue photo vest to its fullest. We've both been a bit "under the weather" and I'm lacking the energy I wish I had to wander around taking pictures. I'm hoping this energy conservation will be rewarded tomorrow and I'll venture out to get all the family photos I enjoy taking.

On our desks today when we arrived, we had a gift waiting. Pretty typical for Saturday. A sponsor will usually leave some promotional thing on our desks. Today it was from Thrivent, and it's to promote recycling your denim. I'm not sure denim ever gets old enough to need recycling, but when it does, evidently you can make home insulation out of it for Habitat for Humanity. And you can then punch out race car shapes from this insulation and make a pile of fluff that leaves lint EVERYWHERE. Yes, we've each been gifted a lint race car. I may "paint" mine purple when I get home, by wrapping my fuchsia-colored dryer lint around it. I know it will adhere quite nicely!

So I mentioned that 2/3 of the RJO staff has been under the weather lately. Well, a certain well-known media sort just now discovered our contagious nature. Keep in mind, we've been here for two days coughing and clearing our throats. I was about 10 minutes away from laying my head down on my desk yesterday. But it's now apparently become a problem for someone else. I may have overstated our wellness and said we're over it and I'm sure we're long past the contagious stage. I wouldn't want to be in the Talladega media center next week, though. After the last cough, she picked her stuff up and moved one desk over. And now she just returned from the food table and I smell an orange being peeled. Good call. Pack in that Vitamin C!

It's not every day you see a guy having to go to the infield care center, getting his "treated and released" papers, and then RUNNING to his car, tossing off his cap mid-sprint, and climbing in to belt up again to get back on the track! Yup, that's Brendan Gaughan! The media center was quite impressed with his foot speed!

And Kyle Busch won another Xfinity race. Woo hoo. Now we're off to hobnob with NASCAR executives. I'll try not to spill my wine on Mike Helton.
