"I believe anybody who tells you he is unbiased is a liar. Being human gives you bias, and you can't avoid that. The best you can ever hope to be is fair."

Honestly, I don't remember what happened the week of the Brickyard. Was that a week when I failed to record it? Or did time just get away from me and I couldn't write it up? I know I saw the first part (to lap 25) and I saw the last part (from 35 to go until the end), but not the bulk of the race. I had nothing to publish. My assistant wryly said, "You got the good stuff.. you didn't miss anything in the middle." He said I should publish it anyway. And I thought about it, but never really got to it. The more time that passed, the more the memory faded, so the less I'm able to write based solely on my memory-jogging notes that I take during the race. Then it occurred to me, maybe you'd like to see what a mess those notes are that I write. It wouldn't take me any time at all to just copy/paste it here. Maybe you'd be amused at the raw notes that I dress up for Tuesdays. Here, then, without any corrections for capitalization or anything else, really, are those notes. It's what I tap out on my keyboard while I'm watching a race live. Probably doesn't need saying, but the "ch" is a CHEERS and a "j" is JEERS . This is the Brickyard column as far as it got...

CHEERS to the "four letters" for Tony

invocation: crap for the first half, sponsors and the rest don't belong. ended well

anthem slow.

grim reapers for the fly over?

ch to another year older for Gordon's kids, all the better to remember.

kyle larson's boy taking his own hat off even when his parents didn't teach him he should.

j to talking to tony on  his pace lap. wouldn't it have been nice if he could just ride around, see the fans, focus on his plans, and be in the quiet?

ch to tony's tactic.. i think. seemed he didn't get the best start, but maybe he just wanted to give denny room enough so Tony could get a crazy amount of momentum to fly by on the inside.

j to a blown up 83 car and Matt DiBenedetto headed to the garage so early.

lap 25

32 to go..

regan smith caution.. fourth caution. weaving coming into the pits?

Kybu still in the lead, led 109 of 130.  turning off engine to save fuel. Anyone else hoping it won't restart?

with so few people at indy, I wonder if it feels like a tire test. I know it's a huge place, but wow. I think the lower series races should all be at IRP, and now I think the Cup race should be there, too.

JEERS to getting a forehead gash from a flying lug nut. But CHEERS to a Minion band-aid. And we love the "support" he's getting back in the pits with the belly laughs from his teammates.

j to predictability. when fourth on back is on new tires and there's a restart with seven to go.... how could that NOT happen?
j to capt obvious...  jeff burton "it's harder to drive a racecar that's running 15th than it is the one that's winning, and the reason is, the one that's winning is better than anyone else." And he went on and on saying how hard it was to understand that.  Hard for whom??

j to pace laps that take forever. what's it been, half an hour??

j to professional race car drivers unable to hold themselves together even for one lap. And if you're Clint Bowyer and can take grass out onto the track, why wouldn't you?

"clint bowyer could get out of the gas, but why should he?" WHY SHOULD HE?? Two wrecked race cars, that's why!   steve letarte, knucklehead.

j to a race that won't end. and jmac turned, but at least the 3 car was there to catch him. and he looks fine.. well, he did until his tire blew up.

and kyle busch wins.  swell.

wow.. stewart and gordon with their last lap around the place, and doing it together. classic!

CHEERS -I love this. I would not mind it every week if I had seen the race. If I had not seen it then I might need more information to understand this.
